TAKE TWENTY FOUR g

Wings on Wednesday -
YAM's take on the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright hilarious in photographing birds.

Image 2/6 in the hungry Herring Gull series! Last week's image was of this bird hovering about six feet above the concrete and belting the mussel it had raided from the rocks onto the hard surface. It did this several times - here you see it picking it up before taking to the hover again.

It wasn't the only gull doing this - and what was comical (but I didn't get a photo) was that some crows started to emulate the tactic!!!

  4. Very cool! Our gulls do the same thing with the crabs they find in the shallows!

  5. Hello, the gull does have a mouthful. I have seen the gulls drop the shells from high and hope they break open when it hits the ground. Great capture! I hope you are having a great day!
