In the Highlands, it is not uncommon, indeed most regular, to find the sheep on the roadside of the fencing.

      Oh no far from it! Though there are no large flocks up North, these being crofts rather than farms (average size about 4 acres). Each crofter may have around 20 sheep, but there is lots of 'common grazing' where they all mingle together. Each will have a colour mark or ear tag to determine ownership. Yxx
