TAKE FORTY NINE h

Welcome to "D" of the alphabetised month!  If you have not seen or heard of the AtoZ challenge, click the logo on the sidebar to find out more! This blog is not about words, but about pictures telling the story. That said, for this month, there will be a few more than usual typed items and occasionally more than the usual one image per post.

It would be hard to make a post on the letter d without including an image of my 'angel', Jade Dog! (July 1994 - Sept 2008)

My garden in Australia was not large, but at least I had one. More to the point, Jade had it and made the most of it!

Australia, land of my heart, is the land of the Dreamtime - and many times I stopped and wondered at its beauty, its light, its Depth... and understood why.

Welcome to "C" of the alphabetised month!  If you have not seen or heard of the AtoZ challenge, click the logo on the sidebar to find out more! This blog is not about words, but about pictures telling the story. That said, for this month, there will be a few more than usual typed items and occasionally more than the usual one image per post.

In Sydney's CBD, or more specifically, Darling Harbour, you can find the Chinese Garden of Friendship. I was working not far away from here when it was being constructed. Quite the mess it was. My goodness, though, once done, it added a place of such tranquillity and Calm to the City Centre. It's an absolute 'must' on your tour if you ever get to visit Sydney.

My sister came in 2006 and I recall we spent near two hours here with very few words exchanged - so blissed out!

We had fun being both here - and then going into the wider Countryside of NSW. Gotta love a scene with a Coo or two in it!

It would be remiss of me not, here in the letter c, to acknowledge the Australian Capital Territory and the city of Canberra. Here's a token picture (and I remind you, many of these are scanned photos - of between 15 and 30 years age!) That's the Parliament Building.

Welcome to "B" of the alphabetised month!  If you have not seen or heard of the AtoZ challenge, click the logo on the sidebar to find out more! This blog is not about words, but about pictures telling the story. That said, for this month, there will be a few more than usual typed items and occasionally more than the usual one image per post.

Australia has an abundance of Beetles! I do love a Bug or two. After all, they are so important for the Balance of ecology and the OZ environmental sensitivity is as any other - perhaps, in some regards, greater.

I have a small regret that I did not photograph a good deal more of the many beetles around my garden. But this Christmas beetle, on the bougainvillaea in the courtyard, was very obliging. Nowadays, I might not have such an opportunity! (This shot was taken on film and is a scanned photograph - as many in this series are - so not so sharp!)

Everything about Australia is Big! That beetle was about two inches long. The seas are big, the cliffs are big, the land is big, the sky is big...

Then it is almost impossible to talk about Australia without mentioning how incredible are its Birds!!! I was a keen amateur ornithologist from schooldays, so OZ was 'squee' territory! To see lots of my bird photos, click the 'wings' label below or on the sidebar.

My theme is Australia, which starts the alpha nicely - but this first post also contains an image of my brother, Alec, another "A". (NB - this little series is going to be entirely personal. If you're here looking for the 'tourist-eye-view', sorry mate!) I emigrated in 1989 on a work visa as a systems analyst/programmer (before 'Information Technology' actually became a terminology!)

That is the mighty Hawkesbury River Alec stands beside. About a 40-min train ride north of my home in Asquith and a spot I often frequented.

It behooves me here to include some examples of Aboriginal Art. These were taken in the Adelaide gallery and I wish to honour and thank the artists who granted permission for their works to be displayed and also shared in this manner.

TAKE FORTY FOUR h

Wings on Wednesday -
YAM's take on the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright hilarious in photographing birds.

Let's close the month off with a recent shot from the Hutch's window; my lovely jackdaw couple have raised a successful chick this year and that's the young one with a parent learning winter grub hunting skills. Not the full silver eye or grey nape yet.
