Wings on Wednesday - 

YAM's take on the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright hilarious in photographing birds.

Another magpie - for David, who likes them "all day long" 😊

Joanne asked about the negative impression perceived about magpies. It may come from the rhyme, where certain numbers of them are said to bring 'bad luck'... 

Meanwhile, back in reality, they are scavengers and predators, they are omnivorous so eat berries and other vegetation, as well as bugs of all varieties, small rodents, and are known to take eggs and chicks of other birds (though this could be said for many corvids also). Non-breeding birds will flock in quite large numbers. They are very noisy (squawk and croak) and can be quite belligerent. All this may add up to a less than favourable view of the bird. Think a gang of teenagers with too much time on their hands!

Monday's Critters

Lacking live critters, one has resorted to the modelled variety! A balsa root hosts two birds of indistinct heritage. It was a gift to my father from a neighbour at Christmas.
