  1. Is this comment by the great early English ornithologist, John Ray. I was not familiar with it until now, but it is certainly true.

      this is the 17th century naturalist, most widely known for his botanical studies, but also wrote on zoology, which would include ornithology; but he was, of course, a Puritan Minister, which would have informed such phrases as this. Yxx

    2. He was substantially involved with ornithology, especially in terms of his association with Willoughby. The literature is replete with references to Ray. .
