The Giant Hedge Grasshopper ... or Valanga irregularis (Acrididae)

It was about four inches not including the antennae.

We will have the seventeen year cicada hatch this year. The last time it happened we had a fox family in our front yard, eating their weight in cicadas. There were three little ones, and they jumped to catch the cicadas as they popped out. The adults waited for them to fall back to the ground.
