TAKE THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY THREE a

Wings on Wednesday -
YAM's take on the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright hilarious in photographing birds.

In all my years of birding, I don't believe I had, until this moment, met a Merganzer. Of the Red-breasted variety no less.  This was on the fondly remembered fair-weather day at the end of November, when I took the Fudge on its first outing to Loch Striven.  Had to stretch the lens well out and no monopod... happy enough...

  1. Nice birds - we used to have a couple of breeding pairs of Goosander on the nature reserves I used to work on - always liked this sort of 'duck' and its relatives.

  2. Ohhhhh Yam-Aunty that is one fine Merganzer and photo to document it.
The most unusual bird mom has seen is an Anhinga (I think is the correct spelling). It is a water bird.
