Saturday Symmetry

Last week you saw outside the door, this week, I bring you the vista inside the door of Inverness Cathedral.

It is the Cathedral of St Andrew - very fitting for today!!!

when I first moved to the Hutch, I was agog with all the busy-ness on the Clyde firth. Sadly, in that first year, the old Nik was starting to show it's age and overuse. The Eilidh Anne is one of our local shrimping craft.

Monday's Critters

It is the week of St Andrew, patron of the Bonny Land - so a heilan' coo or two seemed appropriate.

Monday's Critters

I have to say that taxidermy is not something to which I have given a great deal of thought. One has seen many a natural history exhibit over the years but not been overly enamoured.

Inverness museum changed that for me. Not only were all the exhibits very finely crafted, but there was also this open exhibit encouraging 'touchy-feely'.

I lingered a little longer than was decorous, perhaps, as my hand took in the luxury and warmth of the otter's fur!

At the Beinn Eighe (pron; ben Ae) visitor centre, there is a 'sculpture walk'. These concrete 'trees' maintained the symmetry of the natural world around them, blending surprisingly well.

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY THREE f

In case you hadn't noticed, we hit Thursday again.

...so I am hitting you with more from my big bus trip. Inverness is named for the stonking great river that runs through it. Only about six miles (10km) long, it comes out of Loch Ness a mere 16m above sea level, so for most of its raging course, it runs pretty levelly.

There is great force in those eddies let me tell you. Don't mess with Ness, she's got an urgency to reunite with her Sea. (Well, the Beauly Firth, anyway.)

continuing with museum critters, it is true to say that I have also never seen a Pine Marten in the furs. I am grateful to the taxidermist for having me believe this one was only sleeping and might spring to action at any moment!

In the NW in Sept., there was one sighting of a pair of Golden Eagles. Very High, circling, and far away. Even with the full stretch of the Hisstix's lens, I still had to cut this one in a bit to see the defining features. You can see the beak open, as there was a high, piping call being yelled at its mate!
