Lens was at full stretch and also had to cut in a bit to try and get a better view of those two larger birds. The large ID book we had with us didn't really help - neither did the binoculars. The nearest I can come to is that it is a pair of female Common Scoter, which live only in the NW region of Scotland. Can't really define the colouring from this shot, but naked eye did show lighter tone around neck... per this image from RSPB site. They are on the "Red Status", as there are only about 50 breeding pairs!

Up at the Skelbo cottage, we found the hedge and garden shrubs alive with nesting birds of varies types - but the sparrows were by far the most prolific. Here, a fledgling scores breakfast...
