Wings on Wednesday -
YAM's take on the good, the bad, the ugly and
the downright hilarious in photographing birds.
Once that twig was settled in place, there appeared to be a bit of conversation.
As I mentioned last week, I believe the upper bird to be the male. Ospreys divide the nesting duties between the
pair. The female does most of the incubating, brooding and direct feeding of
the young. She guards them throughout the nestling period and will share the
hunting at later stages when the chicks are larger. The male, on the other
hand, is the major provider of fish for the female and young.
There
appeared to be an appeal from one to the other. In the final pair of images
next week, you will see what occurred as a result of that 'discussion'.
Mrs might be giving Mr. a wee piece of her mind....he was either late, caught the wrong fish or maybe she was just worn out and needed to vent.

they talk to each other, we have seen that at the park and at our beaches, early am, right at daybreak, there were two of them, on each on the top sail of different sailboats, watching the sun come up and shrieking at each other. they are amazing fisherman
ReplyDeleteHow fun to be able to "listen" to their conversation!

I bet it is awesome to be able to view these in person...I sure love it when you show them here.
ReplyDeleteThere is quite a noticeable dimorphism in Ospreys so if you see the two of them together it should be easy to determine the sexes. The female is the bigger of the two,
ReplyDeleteWe think she is telling him that her home needs some more sticks:)
