TAKE ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY TWO

Wings on Wednesday -

YAM's take on the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright hilarious in respect to photographing birds.

These little woodpeckers (this is a male) are quite plentiful round the ashram but very flittery, so am very happy to have obtained this shot.  Taken with the 'Nik' on manual 200ISO, exposure stopped up a notch and lens extended to full 26x optical plus the 4x digital.

  1. He is a handsome little fellow. We don't have woodpeckers like that one here, nothing so colorful.

OOOHHH thank you Deepak-ji!! Everyone here just kept saying 'woodpecker' and when I searched images it comes up under woodpecker and I didn't get any further than that. Now I found this info which supports it's woodpecking nature but explains the noise I have heard...having only watched one making it's hole last spring and hearing the noise I put those two things together! Also noted that this is the "official bird of Mumbai", which delights me no end. YAM xx
