In all my years of birding, I don't believe I had, until this moment, met a Merganzer. Of the Red-breasted variety no less. This was on the fondly remembered fair-weather day at the end of November, when I took the Fudge on its first outing to Loch Striven. Had to stretch the lens well out and no monopod... happy enough...

ReplyDeleteNice birds - we used to have a couple of breeding pairs of Goosander on the nature reserves I used to work on - always liked this sort of 'duck' and its relatives.

ReplyDeleteThe most unusual bird mom has seen is an Anhinga (I think is the correct spelling). It is a water bird.
