TAKE SEVENTY SEVEN

The Tuesday Tease

In fifty or less words, what is the granite guppy saying?  "All right, joke's over - who pulled the plug?"
This is at Cramond, on the Firth of Forth.  The sculpture is one of several that were done for the opening of Scottish Parliament. Taken with the Uniden.

TAKE SEVENTY SIX

Monday's Critters

Two for the price of one today - leaf butterflies. Designed to blend with their trees of choice; which is why they stood out on these tables!  Both taken with the Uniden on macro.

Don't forget to check out the next episode of the J's over at My Meno!

TAKE SEVENTY FIVE

MOONday - as Wednesday has been given over to the birds, the monthly moon shot will appear on last Sunday!

On the rise.  What a pearler!  Taken with the 'Nik' on manual 400ISO, zoomed to full 26x optical.

"A flower cannot blossom without sunshine and a man cannot live without Love." (Max Muller)

Taken at Kolwan with the Uniden.

25 April 2013

TAKE SEVENTY TWO

Last Thursday - the day for something different.

This is a photo of photos turned into montage...  Wisteria is a fairly popular garden climber and nearly every home in my Sydney suburb had one.  Except me of course.

Original was taken with the Uniden and then transformed in software I used at the time - Corel8.

24 April 2013

TAKE SEVENTY ONE

Wings on Wednesday -
YAM's take on the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright hilarious in respect to photographing birds.

Sometimes, when you're lens is pointed at something else of interest, there's alchemy!
Taken with the 'Nik' on auto everything.

TAKE SEVENTY

The Tuesday Tease

You could be forgiven for thinking this one escaped from Monday... but no, it begs the question "in fifty or less words I can tell you that there should be four body guards - these manpower cuts are just not befitting royalty such as myself!"
Check here for where and what this one is about!  Taken with the Uniden.

22 April 2013

TAKE SIXTY NINE

Monday's Critters

Amongst the INDog community, it's still very much survival of the fittest.  Taken with the Uniden.  Do visit Bozo and check out a story related to this piccy at MT-TOO

TAKE SIXTY EIGHT

SUNday

"Today a new sun rises for me; everything lives, everything is animated, everything seems to speak to me of my passion, everything invites me to cherish it." (Ninon de L'Enclos).  Taken on the 'Nik' on manual, 200ISO with lens at 15x zoom.

"...though nothing can bring back the hour
of splendour in the grass, glory in the flower.
We will grieve not.  Rather find splendour in what remains."  (W.Wordsworth)

Taken with the Uniden on macro mode.

TAKE SIXTY FOUR

Wings on Wednesday

Taken with the 'Nik' on standard auto at 20x zoom.

16 April 2013

TAKE SIXTY THREE

The Tuesday Tease

Give it a go.  Fifty words or less will reveal the conversation you think is happening here! "(Sardaar) 'Bindu-ji, I can see Kailash running around over there with an eye-patch on.  What happened?'   (Bindu) 'No eye deer'..."  over to to you!  Taken with the 'Nik' on B&W auto mode at 10x zoom.

15 April 2013

TAKE SIXTY TWO

Monday's Critters

This handsome beastie deserved a double take!

Quite the model of Nature's architecture isn't it?

Taken with the Uniden on macro mode.

Now pop over to TAKE TOO for more on Tuesday's Tease Character Nan.

Don't forget Bozo's Place either!

Also recommended is Through Squirrels Eyes.

14 April 2013

TAKE SIXTY ONE

SUNday

It's not always possible to face the sun.  Sometimes we simply must reflect on it's presence.  Taken with the 'Nik' on auto and 5x zoom.

13 April 2013

TAKE SIXTY

Saturday Symmetry

The Fence Frames.  Each frame has something to offer.  Then they come together like a jigsaw.  This very large owl (apologies for not remembering the species) was framed at Edinburgh Zoo by the Uniden.

12 April 2013

TAKE FIFITY NINE

It's green really...

(see MT-TOO to understand the reference!)  Taken with the 'Nik' on manual 100ISO.

11 April 2013

TAKE FIFTY EIGHT

Pink out!

I mentioned over at My Meno... last week that we had been inundated with dust.  During that week I did not have time to snap the effects. However I did get this one of an earlier, particularly dusty day.  It is WLPG'd into sepia due to the dreadful, not-even-pleasant, grey that it originally was. Taken with the 'Nik' on auto everything and 16x zoom, this almost makes it seem like a good thing!

10 April 2013

TAKE FIFTY SEVEN

Wings on Wednesday

"But hopes are shy birds, flying at a great distance, seldom reached by the best of guns." (J J Audubon)  Taken with the 'Nik' on sports mode and 'full stretch' lens!

09 April 2013

TAKE FIFTY SIX

The Tuesday Tease

It's that day again! In fifty or less words, tell me what is happening in the attic window top left.

"Nan sat there glaring over at the woman peering through the North Bridge posts. 'Why doesn't she look at me?' wondered Nan.  She tried waving, but the stranger was unmoved.  With a sigh, Nan turned and headed for the kitchen, her tail swaying nonchalantly as she went."

Edinburgh's Cowgate, taken with the Uniden.

08 April 2013

TAKE FIFTY FIVE

Monday's Critters

Despite reservations voiced (to right), the Uniden has given me some sublime captures.  This macro moment at Kolwan was God-given.  The caterpillar only got noticed because it moved into this defensive mode - otherwise it would have been missed!  It was about 6-7 cms (3 inches) long and thick as my thumb.  Probably a moth of some sort will emerge.

TAKE FIFTY FOUR

SUNday

"Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand.  The sun's rays do not burn until they are brought to a focus." (Alexander Graham Bell)

Mumbai's winter sun. Taken with the 'Nik' on manual 200ISO.

06 April 2013

TAKE FIFTY THREE

Saturday Symmetry

"...a frame too many..."  Newhaven, Edinburgh.  Taken with the Uniden.

05 April 2013

TAKE FIFTY TWO

By popular demand...

The rose bud a couple of weeks back was quite the 'hit'.  Same bush different setting.  Taken with the 'Nik' on, would you believe, 'food' option auto, which is a glorified macro with colouration guage, which I boosted up a notch.  Background was naturally dark at this midday time.

04 April 2013

TAKE FIFTY ONE

Rainbow Warriors!

Holi - 27th March 2013 as celebrated at Chinmaya Mission Sandeepany Sadhanalaya Ashram, Mumbai.  As YAMarazzi, I could legitimately lurk at the top of the neighbouring building, gaining maximum benefit with none of the muss!!!  Taken with the 'Nik' on manual, 200ISO, varying optical zooms from 15 - 20x.

03 April 2013

TAKE FIFTY (!)

Gosh.  Fifty days of photographic frippery!!  A BIG thank you to all visitors and especially to my already loyal followers.  It's early days yet, but things are going along nicely and I do hope you are finding things to like.

I am breaking the trend of keeping minimum words for this occasion as I have decided to make a new theme for the mid-week blog and wish to tell you about it.

Welcome to WINGS ON WEDNESDAYS!

Birds of course are critters too, but as a lifelong 'twitcher'/'birder'/amateur ornothologist/Wild YAM (no I'm no amateur at that last bit!) as well as a keen amateur photographer/piccie hound/YAMarazzi, I feel the need to give them a page all of their own.  Here in Mumbai there are the ubiquitous crows, koels and Black Kites as well as a variety of colourful and tuneful lovelies.

Photographing them is proving to be challenging/frustrating/downright agitating/immensely rewarding.  ...You'll gather, by this multiple choice reporting style, there will be a lot of take your pick/leave it alone/sniggering going on for this particular post day!

You are going to find some wacky/wonderful/wow as well as just plain ridiculous.  It is important for me to let you see my process though.  This is a real and tiring project.  Any photographer with integrity knows that for every fantastic shot, 99 horrible ones came first.  The digital age has simply made this a whole lot easier and a good deal less expensive.  To start things off, though, let me use something reasonably worthwhile and rather uplifting.

...wait for it!....

TAKE FORTY NINE

The Tuesday Tease

Yes, it's the weekly tester for you Takers! 50 words or less is all you'll need to tell me what the heck is happening here!

"So, sports fans, we have Goldiskirts at the top or her game as she prepares the final two quoit throws.  These have to hang off Scott's Monument for her to proceed to the finals...  QUIET PLEASE"

Roof of the Philsophy and Comparative Religions campus of Edinburgh Uni, The Mound (above Princes Street).  Taken with the Uniden.

TAKE FORTY EIGHT

EASTER MONDAY'S CRITTER... The Lamb of God...

May we all be blessed with His tender care.

Taken with the Uniden in Baylham Parish Church, Suffolk, England.

Don't forget to check-in with Bozo and the J's and do link into some of the interesting and fun blogs on my Top Take-aways listing!
